While my first baby was an attempted home birth, it didn't end that way-and my dr in the hospital said that the outcome would have been the same had I be in the hospital to start. My 2nd baby was in the hospital-induced, (PAINFUL) epidural...but I yelled at the dr when he even mentioned the word episiotomy. I also made him wait 10 min before cutting the cord, but he was chomping at the bit to cut it earlier than that. Overall--not a good experience, but not a bad one either! My 3rd was in the hospital again, induced, but NO epidural, labored in the tub, delivered in the dumb hospital bed. That's my "natural" baby. My 2 sisters and 1 sister-in-law had all their babies at home with midwives. That's a total of 12 babies born at home (I was lucky enough to be present for 2 of them). There were never any problems, no complications, etc. (and the midwives DO clean everything up for you!!!) None of us circumcise our boys (7 boys in all), and we all breastfeed for a minimum of 13 months---but most of us nurse our babies until around age 2. I delayed immunizations with both of mine until they were 10 months old--and then I was selective. My kids do NOT get the MMR shot until they start school--with my son, I may sign the waiver though. My siblings either don't immunize or delay it until they are a year old. Our kids have never spent a single day in day-care, and for me, I didn't go back to work until my kids were 2 years old...and then only part-time (20 hours/week or less) and only when daddy can be home with them.
I strongly believe in homebirth/natural childbirth, delaying cord cutting, no/minimal immunizations, no circumcision, breastfeeding/breast milk for a minimum of 1 year. I also believe in co-sleeping...
You will love having a home birth. You are making such wonderful choices for you and your baby! I am so excited for you! >>hugs<<
Megan in UtahNick and Meghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04472436468387453006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-850720343842114971.post-20000469283633019492010-09-18T14:19:45.761-07:002010-09-18T14:19:45.761-07:00I had my son in a birthing center that was 'ha...I had my son in a birthing center that was 'hands off' with a bunch of tubes, but I got total support with the midwife the whole time! (It was tech the assistant, while the mid wife got ready for when I pushed) but I had the same person with me the WHOLE time. She was there for me, while I think the mid wife was there for the baby. So I got 1:1 attention the whole time. No, 'leave the mother behind to focus on baby' at any moment. It was like a bed and breakfast, and oh, I happen to give birth. hehe. I went in at 11pm and had my son at 8:25 am. Support never slept. I had husband, mother and good friend in the room. It was so free. It was so uncomplicated. I could have had 30 more people if I wanted (though I wouldn't) to be by my side at any one time. I had apples, and they even peeled the skin because it was too hard to chew. ;) hehe. I got wet cold cloth on my forehead, drinking smart water. I got to birth my son in a tub!
I would never trade that for the world.
I'm glad that you got to be aware of this option early enough for this child. I would have a home birth if it wasn't for the fact 1. I won't have another child and 2. I feel like I have to clean up afterwards- make sure that someone knows this is NOT your job!! heh.

I'm so happy for you! It will be YOUR home, YOUR comfort, YOUR safety zone and that is the BEST place in the world to bring another human being into this world. *HUGS*chipmunckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01020945941696952956noreply@blogger.com
